We are now all noticing the first signs of spring around us as plants start to reawaken and shoots slowly form on hedges and trees.

Our Tips for your Garden this March

garden tips

Garden Lawn
If you have not already done so, this month may see the first time you need to cut your lawn.  Following on from the recent storms, pick up any twigs and branches that may have fallen.  Once the lawn has been cut, repair bare patches with a scattering of lawn seed.  Make sure that the lawn edges are also cut, it is amazing what a difference this makes to the general look of the lawn and garden.

Summer Bulbs
If you visit your local garden centre you will find that the summer flowering bulbs are now available to buy and then plant out in your garden.  Adding summer bulbs to your garden borders and containers can help to create fantastic and generous displays in the summer.

Plants
March is the time to divide and transplant early flowering perennials.  So if you have a good sized plant, you can save money by dividing it and transplanting the removed parts around your garden.  Protect new shoots by keeping an eye out for slugs and snails.  If you have a display of daffodils (or later in the month, some tulips) in your garden, then don’t forget to deadhead them.  Just deadhead the flowers but leave the foliage to go yellow before lifting it.

Containers
If you have a selection of wonderful containers around your garden, this is a good time to top dress them with fresh compost.

Trim Hedges
If you have hedges around your property that require cutting back, now is the last time to trim them prior to the nesting season beginning.
